Sven Vollfied (スヴェン ボルフィード Suven Borufīdo) is a former IBI agent turned sweeper who becomes Train Heartnet's partner after Train leaves Chronos.

Appearance[]

Sven18

Sven without his eyepatch.

Sven has green hair and a small stubble. His left eye is orange, while his right one is green (His late partner's vision eye). He usually wears a white suit, white hat, blue shirt, black shoes, and a red tie.

Personality[]

Sven follows a strict code of chivalry; he is always respectful to women and children (though dangerous women do not seem to apply) and acts very proper. He is often tortured by Train Heartnet's capricious personality and is usually dragged into trouble and even more debt because of it. Throughout the series, he tends to get severely wounded but never backs down from his task or his code.

He is also noted for being a creative thinker and always calm even in the most dangerous of circumstances.

History[]

Before becoming a sweeper, he was an agent for the International Bureau of Investigation, along with his partner, Lloyd Goldwynne, who was a clairvoyant. After being attacked by members of a crime family, Sven loses his right eye and Lloyd sacrifices himself to save Sven. A week before his death, Lloyd registered as an organ donor. The night he died, Sven received the vision eye.

Sven quit his job at the IBI and became a sweeper. He met Train Heartnet and the two became partners.

Manga Plot[]

Black Cat Arc[]

Sven and Train have been partners for two years. They manage to capture many criminals, but are always short on money due to Train enormous apatite.

They rescue Harry Afleck, a man who was involved with a mafia, but make it clear that they are going to turn him in. Harry accepts this, but requests to see his family in Rojana. Sven refuses, but Train agrees and Sven does so as well reluctantly. The next day, Sven leaves to check on the car, and upon returning, finds Harry dead and Train nowhere in sight. He then wonders what idiot would anger the Black Cat. Train returns after dealing with Harry's killer and the two leave. They go to Harry's family and give them the photo Harry had.

Later, while chasing their latest target, Pado Reed, Train and Sven encounter Cleaver, a Chronos Agent. Train goes to talk with Cleaver while Sven takes Pado, who was stabbed by Cleaver, to the hospital. Sven waits for Train to arrive and once he does, informs him that Pado survived.

Eve Arc[]

While visiting Annette Pias's café, the sweepers encounter the notorious thief, Rinslet Walker. Rinslet requests their help in her latest job that involves Torneo Rudman. The sweepers accept and the three meet at Sepidoa. While Train infiltrates Torneo's mansion, Sven encounters Eve, Torneo's bio-weapon. Torneo arrives and Sven tries to arrest him, but Eve stabs him and return home with her owner.

Sven survives the wound and goes with Train to rescue Eve. They separate, Train fights Torneo's henchmen while Sven looks for Eve. Once he finds her, he tells her that she can leave if she wishes to. Torneo attempts to stop her by injecting her with a serum that will turn her into a brainless monster, but Train stops him.

With their mission over, Sven and Train resume sweeping with Eve tagging along.

Lunafort Arc[]

After Creed captures Rinslet Walker, Trains sets out to save her. Sven stays behind with Eve, who asks if Train will be alright. Sven replies that he will, as Train always finds a way. Train return with an unconscious Rinslet. Sven takes care of her.

Gyanza Arc[]

The sweepers continue working. Their latest targets are the criminal duo, Ricky and Johnny. Sven devises a plan, but Train quickly acts and chases them, and he and Eve capture them together. Sven, however, in irritated at Train's impulsive actions.

Later, the Trio encounters Belze Rochefort, a Chronos Numbere. He delivers a video message from Karl Walken, Train's old guardian and the current mayor of Rubeck City. Karl informs them of his city's plight: A mass-murderer has terrorized the citizens. Sven discovers that the criminal is Gyanza Rijukke, a criminal he had arrested in the past.

Train and Sven wait for Gyanza to appear while Eve acts as bait, something Sven was initially against. When Gyanza finally appears, he injures Eve, much to Train and Sven's anger. They battle and Gyanza quickly proves himself to be a challenging foe. In the end, Sven is forced to use his right eye to predict Gyanza's next attack. Gyanza is defeated and Sven is exhausted from using the vision eye. Then, two people approach and watch Gyanza die from overusing his Tao. The newcomers introduce themselves as Charden Flamberg and Kyoko Kirisaki.

With Gyanza gone, the trio leave Rubeck City.

Graveyard Arc[]

On the anniversary of his partner's, Lloyd goldwynne, death, Sven went to his grave to pay respects. He recalled that fateful night Lloyd died and Sven received his vision eye. He went back to Train and Eve and was enraged to see that Train had wasted a lot of bullets.

Dinosaur Arc[]

Sven reluctantly becomes Train's chauffeur after the latter was manipulated by Rinslet into joining her on her latest mission. Sven waits outside with Eve and takes a nap. He is awakened by people screaming and is shocked to see a real-life dinosaur attacking the city. Sven meets up with Train, who fills him in on what is happening. They manage to subdue Flora with the help of Sven's latest invention, the Attaché Weapon Case. Afterwards, they return home where Sven learns that Train had encountered Lugart Won, an assassin with a large bounty on his head, and let him go; he beats him up and yells at him for doing so.

The Impostor Arc[]

The Sweepers learn that a man in Fector town is using the Black Cat moniker. Train is unbothered by this, much to Sven's surprise and disappointment. They go to Fector town to look for the imposter, who turns out to be an informant named "Woodney." Woodney is unaware that Train is the real Black Cat and invites them to lunch. They run into the criminal, Stamper Wilson, who challenges the "Black Cat" to a battle. Train pretends to be the Black Cat's disciple and takes the challenge in place of his "mentor." He easily defeats Wilson, and Woodney realizes that Train is the real Black Cat.

As they are about to leave town, Woodney arrives and states that he wants to become Train's apprentice. The sweepers quickly leave, with Woodney following them.

The Mad Gunman Arc[]

Train and Sven go to visit Annette, only to find her all beaten up. She warns them of a gunman who is looking for Train and has used her database to find his address. They go home to find a bloody and unconscious Eve with a message to Train in the girl's blood.

Train leaves to deal with the gunman while Sven takes Eve to a doctor who treats "special" patients. Sven decides that it was best for Eve to no longer accompany him and Train, and stay with Annette instead. When Train returns, Sven informs him of his decision before telling Eve as well once she wakes up.

They leave Eve with Annette and go to chase their next target: Bomber Kelly Barris. On the job, Sven feels as if something is missing and constantly gets distracted. He runs into Kelly and chases him. Kelly holds an infant as hostage, and threatens to blow himself and the child up unless Train and Sven let him go. They are about to comply when they see Eve among the crowd. Kelly orders her to bring him Train's gun. She complies but presents him with a replica. Kelly is distracted, allowing the two sweepers to apprehend him. Afterwards, Sven allows Eve to join them again.

Vengeance Arc[]

The sweepers go to Champais town to arrest the criminal, Donovan William. Train goes for a walk while Eve and Sven go fishing, but do not manage to catch any fish.

The sweepers meet Tim Vertical, a young boy seeking vengeance against the man who killed his father. Tim begs Train to help him fulfill his objective, and Train, after initially refusing, agrees.

At night, they are attacked by more police officers, whom they manage to defeat. Train takes Murdoch's coat and tells Sven he is leaving.

After helping Tim, they drop him off to his grandmother's house. Sven asks Train why he went to so much trouble to teach Tim that revenge is meaningless. Train responds that he was just like Tim at that age.

Cerberus Arc[]

The sweepers go to Stock Town to chase after a criminal after receiving a tip from Woodney. Sven realizes that the tip was a bogus, as their target was arrested two days prior. They notice that a group of men have been watching them and suspect that Chronos had sent them. A man approaches them for directions and in turn, gives them directions to Creed's location.

The three arrive at an old castle. Eve suddenly feels strange, so Sven stays behind with her while Train carries on. Later, Train returns with Rinslet, and the four escape before the castle is blown up. They meet the Chrono Number X, Lin Shaolee, who was the strange man that had lead them to Creed. Lin tries to get Train to reveal his history with Creed, to which Train refuses. With his time up, Lin departs.

Lucifer Arc[]

Sven and Eve are captured by Creed, who intends to kill Sven in hopes Train will join him. He shoots a nanomachine-filled bullet at Sven, but Train shows up just in time and takes the bullet.

After returning home, they witness the nanomachines turn Train into a child. Train runs into Kyoko, and after a talk with Charden, promises to protect Kyoko.

The sweepers are visited by two Chrono Numbers, Kranz Maduke and Baldorias S. Fanghini who want to assassinate Kyoko. The sweepers try to negotiate, but end up fighting the two Numbers. The battle is disrupted with the arrival of Rinslet and Jenos Hazard, who orders Kranz and Baldor to head back to HQ.

Rinslet informs them that she has discovered the whereabouts of Eve's creator, Tearju Lunatique. The sweepers visit her in hopes of finding a cure. Tearju concludes that Train can revert back if he imagines his older self. While Train tries reverting back outside, Sven, Eve, and Tearu are attacked by Echidna, the Shooting Star Unit, and a new Apostle named Eathes. Train, in his older self, arrives and saves them with his new power, the Rail gun. The Apostles escape.

Sweeper Woman Arc[]

Train finally decides to tell Eve and Sven about Saya and what had occurred two years ago. Once he is finished, they all decide that Creed must be captured.

Alliance Arc[]

Sven decides to train his vision eye so that it does not train him too much. With the help of Rinslet, it evolves into the Grasper eye, allowing him to see things in slow motion.

When he is done with his training, Sven joins the Sweeper's alliance along Train and Eve. On the way to the Apostles' island, the sweepers are attacked by Shiki, who destroys their boat.

Sven washes up on the island and runs into Silphy Dearcroft and Deek Slathky, a new Apostle. After freezing Silphy's arm, Deek tells him that she will turn into an ice sculpture unless Sven knocks him out. Sven fights him, and with his new Grasper eye, defeats Deek and saves Silphy.

Upon reaching the Creed's castle, Sven regroups with Train and Eve. The three run into Eathes, who decides to help them after he is easily defeated by Train. They meet Echidna and the Kiseitai on their way. Sven and Eve stay behind to fight them, while Train goes after Creed. They defeat them and discover that Train had defeated Creed.

A CarefreeTomorrow[]

Eight months after the battle with Creed, the trio resumes sweeping. Sven fixes up Hades for Train, but it is no longer entirely made of Orichalcum.

Anime Plot[]

Train First Appears Before Sven

Train and Sven's first encounter.

Sven, visiting, follows the town's mayor Lib Tyrant, in order to collect a bounty on him. However, as Sven meets him, his vision eye sees his death within 5 minutes. Sven follows him to a gala event, and witnesses Train's successful assassination. Sven follows him outside, where he notices Train's Chronos tattoo.

Sven Chasing After Train

Sven chasing Train to rescue Eve.

Rinslet Walker poses as a damsel-in-distress named Elena to gain Sven's attention and asks him to save her sister, who was kidnapped by thugs. However, after Sven sees Train's interest in the girl, he asks Rinslet to tell him the truth. She explains that Eve is a bio-engineered weapon and their job is to capture her. He later finds Eve in a park, and bonds with her over ice-cream. However, she is captured by her guards, and Sven is unable to catch up to the car.

Upon getting her back from an exploding compound, Train shows up and points his gun at her. However, at the last second he doesn't pull the trigger. At the fireworks show not too long after, Eve senses Train and saves him.

Train, now on their side, accompanies Sven and Eve on their sweeper missions. Soon, they would come to learn of the Apostles of the Stars, and Creed's bounty of 3 billion dollars. Sven hides this fact from Train, knowing he would set out to find Creed alone, and instead meets the Sweeper's Alliance.

By using Preta Ghoul's acid-resistant clothing as gloves, Sven by passed the Apostle's power. But like a typical sweeper, he didn't kill him, only trapping him in a cage, his hands bound.

Equipment and Abilities[]

Attaché Weapon Case

Inventor: Sven is skilled in inventing and making innovative weapons and other various equipment, including bombs and special bullets for Train.

Sven; Vision EYe

Sven's vision eye

Vision Eye: A transplanted eye from his partner Lloyd, who was a clairvoyant. The Vision Eye gives Sven the ability to see a few seconds into the future and allows him to dodge attacks easily. However, since the eye is not naturally his, using it's power puts a massive strain on Sven's body, so he normally keeps it under an eye patch. Sven's eye does not have the ability to see Creed's Imagine Blade, but that is due mainly to the fact that he "wasn't concentrating due to the sword's confusing movements", he later evolves it, through intense training, into the Glasper Eye.

Marksmanship: He is known for having incredible accuracy with firearms, only rivaled by Train's own skills. He often uses his suitcase invention, but also uses a regular pistol, usually to no avail when it strikes his opponent.

Relationships[]

Eve[]

Sven and Eve

Eve and Sven

Sven is extremely overprotective of Eve, whom he views as a daughter, though he denies it. After Eve was severely inquired by Durham Glaster, Sven was convinced that she should no longer accompany him and Train on their missions, unintentionally hurting her feelings. Even though this was his idea, Sven felt something was missing when Eve was not with him and Train, and reconsidered his decision to leave her. When he tried preventing her from meeting her creator, Annette snapped at him, telling him that Train understands the girl more than he does. After defeating Doctor, Sven kept asking Eve if her injuries were severe, all while ignoring Train (Whom was also injured).

Train Heartnet[]

Train and Sven01

Train and Sven.

Despite being partners and friends, Trains annoys Sven to no end, whether it be the ex-assassin's endless appetite (the reason they are always short on money), his goofy, reckless, and childish personality, or his sheer stupidity. All their arguments involve Sven punching Train. In the anime, they do not get off on a good start, but become friends during the six month time-skip. Sven showed deep concern for Train when the latter went after Creed, while remembering his late partner, Lloyd, and took a bullet shot meant for Train. After the Apostles left, the two argued and Sven ended up punching Train. In Episode 12, Train leaves his friends behind to fight Creed. Sven, upon learning this, angrily follows him, vowing to punch Train again if he dies.

Lloyd Goldwynne[]

Lloyd was Sven's partner and best friend back when he was an IBI agent. Lloyd's death deeply devastated Sven, who blames himself. Since then, Sven visits his friend's grave every year.

Trivia[]

  • Sven was named after a supporting character in a movie that Kentaro Yabuki loved.
  • He is one of the few characters to appear in all episodes of the anime.
  • His profile states that he wasn't born into a respectable family.
